Graduate special students may enroll in the graduate-level courses offered
through the International Development Program and do not need to pursue the ID
graduate certificate or degree.
Some individuals choose not to earn a certificate or a Master's degree but
prefer to take some of the International Development courses because:
- they already hold degrees in International Development or in a field of
disability and only wish to enroll in those courses which will enhance their
current skills. For example, one professional was already traveling
overseas to give trainings in the area of Deaf education, but felt she needed
to understand more about development so enrolled in EDF 770, GOV 791, and ECO
714. Another World Bank employee felt she knew enough about development,
but needed to learn more about disability and development and program planning
so she enrolled in EDF 772 and EDF 834;
- they are considering earning the certificate or a degree in International
Development but would first like to take one or two courses in order to see if
the field is matches their professional goals.
- some graduate students earning a Master's or Doctoral degree at other
universities will add Gallaudet's online ID courses to their degree study plan
which will then count toward their graduation in their home university.
Graduate special student status is limited to U.S. citizens and permanent
residents only.
